Update: We’ve made these tools even more accessible. You can now download the Pixel PDF Tools Chrome Extension to access our full suite of private document utilities directly from your browser toolbar.
People constantly interact with PDF documents, yet the tools available to manage them often force a compromise between convenience and privacy. When you need to quickly merge invoices, extract a page from a contract, or compress a large report, the default behavior for most free online tools is to upload your files to a remote server. At Pixel, we believe your data should stay on your device.
Today, we are launching Pixel PDF, a comprehensive suite of 100% free and private PDF tools that run entirely in your web browser. By shifting the processing to the client-side, we have eliminated the need for file uploads, guaranteeing that your sensitive information never leaves your computer.
To achieve this level of performance without a backend server, our R&D efforts focused on leveraging modern web capabilities. We utilized WebAssembly (WASM) to port powerful, enterprise-grade tools directly into the browser environment. For example, our PDF security module is powered by QPDF compiled to WASM, allowing you to apply or remove industry-standard AES-256 encryption completely locally.
The platform includes a full array of utilities designed for everyday workflows. You can seamlessly merge multiple documents, split files by specific page ranges, and compress PDFs to optimize file size. We also built in visual editing capabilities, allowing users to add text, highlight sections, and draw annotations directly onto the document canvas before saving. For users managing document indexing and SEO, the suite provides a dedicated metadata editor to instantly update authors, titles, and keywords.
By building Pixel PDF, we are expanding our portfolio of web tools while adhering to a strict privacy-first architecture. It is fast, requires no registration, and sets a new baseline for how web utilities should handle user data.
